1966 AL Game: Baltimore Streak Ends

August 26, 1966

The Baltimore Orioles 19 game winning streak finally came to an end tonight. It took extra innings but the Boston Red Sox were able to defeat the Orioles 8-3. During the streak, the Orioles were able to climb from 6th place and 10 games behind into 1st. They now hold the top spot by 2 games over the 2nd place Detroit Tigers.

Carl Yastrzemski blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI and Lee Stange went 5 strong
innings at Memorial Stadium where the Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore
Orioles in 10 innings by the score of 8 to 3. The loss is Baltimore's 1st in 20 games.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Boston won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning.  The biggest moment was provided by Joe
Foy who quieted the crowd when he doubled plating three runs.  Boston banged
out 8 hits on the night.  
 
Bill Short(3-3) went 4 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Dick Hall(5-5) was
tagged with the loss in relief.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
5 runs in 2 innings.
