AL Game: Bsn at NY

September 24, 1966

New York pitcher Mel Stottlemyre became the 1st 20 game winner in the AL by leading the Yankees over the Red Sox 10-8. The victory allowed New York to keep their 1 game lead in the AL Standings.

In a tight game it was the New York Yankees 10, the woeful Boston Red Sox 8 at
Yankee Stadium.
 
Mel Stottlemyre(20-12) pitched well for New York in their victory.  He
surrendered 6 hits and 6 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.  Boston threatened in
the 9th but New York was able to put down the rally.  
 
Pedro Ramos recorded his 21st save.  Lee Stange(7-9) was charged with the
loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits and 2 walks in
3 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Stottlemyre said.
