1966 AL Game: Det. at Min.

September 24, 1966

The Detroit Tigers have taken the 1st two games of a 3 game series against the Minnesota Twins, moving the Tigers into a 1st place tie with the NY Yankees in the AL. In today's game, Detroit got a fine complete game performance from starter Dave Wickersham, defeating Minnesota 4-1. Two-run homeruns from Willie Horton and Al Kaline provided all of the Tigers scoring. Twins starter Jim Merritt struck out 15 in a losing effort. The loss puts Minnesota 2 games behind the league leaders.

Dave Wickersham tossed a complete game at Metropolitan Stadium as the Detroit
Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins by the count of 4 to 1.
 
Detroit took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits.
That was all the offense they were to need.  Detroit finished with just 6
hits in the victory.  
 
Wickersham(12-5) allowed 1 run on the game. Jim Merritt(7-8) was hit with the
loss.  He struck out 15 batters in 9 innings despite losing the game.
