It was quite a wild ending to game 4 of the 1966 World Series. LA pitcher Claude Osteen was on cruise control until the bottom of the 8th inning. The Dodgers were leading 2-0 when the Tigers finally broke through against Osteen. Before the inning was over, Detroit had a 3-2 lead heading into the 9th. Tiger closer Larry Sherry came on to pitch in search of his 3rd save of the Series. But after getting the first two outs of the inning, Sherry was unable to get the final out. Los Angeles came roaring back, scoring 3 runs to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the 9th. Dodger closer Phil Regan came on in relief and preserved the victory. The Series is now tied up at 2 games apiece.

WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Bill Freehan blocked the plate, saving a run!
The Los Angeles Dodgers came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil the
anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 5 to
3.
Los Angeles scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs
on 3 base hits. After two outs Jim Barbieri began the rally when he drew a
walk. Al Ferrara followed next and he doubled. Willie Davis then laced a
single. Jim Lefebvre was up next and he drew a walk. Lou Johnson stepped
into the box and doubled. Los Angeles totaled 9 hits on the afternoon.
Jim Brewer(1-0) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Brewer was
helped out by Phil Regan who recorded his 1st save. Larry Sherry(0-1)
suffered the loss in relief.
Walter Alston was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
