The AL scored 2 runs in the 6th inning and held on to defeat the NL 3-2 in the 1966 All-Star Game played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The AL got a clutch RBI double from Minnesota's Harmon Killebrew and a clutch RBI single from Baltimore's Boog Powell in the 6th. The NL threatened in the 9th when Lou Brock stole 2nd while pinch running and another hometown favorite, Tim McCarver, stepped in to pinch hit with 2 out. The AL manager then brought in Cleveland's Sam McDowell to relieve Denny McLain and McDowell got McCarver on a flyout to center and preserve the win for the AL.

40,800 fans watched an exciting game at Busch Stadium. The American 1966
ballclub topped the National 1966 team by the slimmest of margins, 3 to
2.
American 1966 scored 2 runs in the decisive 6th inning when they had 3 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Frank Robinson got things rolling when he
doubled. Mickey Mantle dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
Harmon Killebrew then doubled. Tom Tresh followed and he drew a walk. Boog
Powell came to the plate and smacked a single. National 1966 had a chance in
the 9th but they came up short.
The winning pitcher was Mel Stottlemyre(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Sam McDowell earned his 1st save. Bob Veale(0-1) took the loss in relief.
