1966 NL Game: Chicago at St. Louis

1967 Topps Baseball: Byron Browne (#July 17, 1966

Chicago Cub outfielder Byron Browne had a big day at the plate today. Browne blasted 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI, leading the Cubs to an 8-7 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Browne totaled 4 hits in the game.

Byron Browne smashed 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the Chicago Cubs defeated the
St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 8 to 7 at Busch Stadium.
 
Browne enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 1st inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the
3rd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 5th inning and cleared the fences
for a two-run home run in the 7th inning.  St. Louis made it exciting in the
9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
Ken Holtzman(6-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 6 runs. Billy Hoeft recorded the save, his 3rd.  The loss was
charged to Art Mahaffey(0-4).  He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6 and 1/3
innings of work.  
 
With the win Chicago now has a record of 38-50.  With the loss, St. Louis has a
record of 5-5 lately, 49-39 overall.
