Willie McCovey smashed 2 homeruns and had 7 rbi as the San Francisco Giants staged
a dramatic comeback over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 8 to 6 at Candlestick Park. San Francisco had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning as they scored 4 runs on 3 base hits. The highlight belonged to McCovey who electrified Candlestick Park when he launched a Grand Slam homerun. San Francisco rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon. Joe Gibbon(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and allowing no runs. Tommie Sisk(4-1) ended up with the loss in relief. Gibbon and McCovey were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As Herman Franks noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
