1966 AL Game: Chi. at Det.

Dick Tracewski Autographed Detroit Tigers 8x10 PhotoMay 14, 1966

It took extra innings, 11 in fact, but the Detroit Tigers finally put an end to their 6 game losing streak by defeating the Chicago White Sox 6-5 at Tiger stadium today. Bill Freehan led off the bottom of the 11th for the Tigers with a base hit. The next batter Dick Tracewski (pictured), tried to bunt Freehan over to 2nd but fouled off the first two pitches. With a 1-2 count on him, Tracewski swung away and doubled down the rightfield line. Freehan tried to score from 1st on the hit and slid in under the tag on a close play at the plate. Detroit will try to gain more ground on the 1st place White Sox in tomorrow's final game of this 3 game series.

Right fielder Al Kaline left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers beat
the Chicago White Sox in 11 innings by a score of 6 to 5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Detroit won it in
the 11th inning. Bill Freehan lined a base-hit. Dick Tracewski stepped up
to the plate and he doubled giving Detroit the victory and sending the 24,794
home-town fans home happy. Chicago was out-hit by Detroit, 13 hits to 9.

The victory was credited to Larry Sherry(1-2) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Gary Peters(4-2) was given the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing
13 hits and 2 walks in 10 innings.

'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Chuck Dressen sighed. 'That win feels like a tall,
cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'
