1966 AL Game: Det. at Clv.

Rocky Colavito Fan SiteMay 10, 1966

The Detroit Tigers traveled to Cleveland hoping to put an end to their 4 game losing streak. Against great expectations for this season, the Indians have gotten off to a horrible 6-13 start and are having a very hard time scoring runs. The starting pitchers for tonight's game,  Mickey Lolich for Detroit and Gary Bell for Cleveland, were both at the top of their game and neither team was able to score through the 1st 10 innings. Al Kaline broke the deadlock in the top of the 11th inning for the Tigers when he hit a 2 run blast. Larry Sherry came on in the bottom of the 11th to close out the game for Detroit. After getting the first two outs, Duke Simms got to 2nd on a 2 base throwing error by Sherry. The next batter, pinch hitter Tony Martinez, hit a run scoring single making the score 2-1. Cleveland manager Birdie Tebbetts then sent up Rocky Colavito to hit for Davalillo and The Rock promptly hit a 2 run game winning homer that sent the hometown fans into a wild celebration. The Tiger players walked dejectedly off the field with their 5th loss in a row.
