The weather was perfect for an early spring game at Tiger Stadium where the Detroit Tigers played their home opener today. In a see-saw game the Tigers came out on top of the Washington Senators, scoring a run in the bottom of the 9th for a 6-5 victory. With a runner on 1st, Jerry Lumpe hit his second triple of the game to win it for the hometown team.

Jerry Lumpe had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit Tigers won a
thriller over the Washington Senators, 6 to 5.
The game was won by Detroit when they scored a run in the 9th inning. After
an out was recorded, Dick McAuliffe drew a walk. Lumpe came next and he
tripled making Detroit the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.
It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 6 times.
Fred Gladding(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Bob Humphreys(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run
and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
